Fewer things, chosen well

The Athena Edit is a shortlist, not a shop. Everything here was chosen by one person, scored against a published rubric, and linked out to the retailer who sells it.

Why it exists

Shopping online is not short of options. It is short of judgment. A search for a black knit dress returns four thousand results ranked by whoever paid for the placement, and almost none of that helps you decide. This site does the opposite thing: a small number of pieces, each with a reason attached, and a note about what is wrong with them as well as what is right.

Who chooses

I do — one editor, working from brand specifications, size guides and fabric composition rather than from press releases. I read the full specification of everything listed here before it goes up, and I write the note myself. If a piece has a flaw worth knowing about, the note says so; that sentence is usually the most useful one on the page.

How the scoring works

Every piece carries a Curator Score out of 10, averaged across sizing confidence, fabric and construction, value for price and versatility. Nothing below 6.0 is published. The method — and its limits, which are real — is set out on The Curator Score.

How it is paid for

By affiliate commission, and by nothing else. There are no ads here, no sponsored placements, and no paid reviews. What that does and does not change is on the disclosure page, in full.
