How we make money

The Athena Edit earns commission when you buy through our links. It never changes what you pay, and it never decides what we recommend — we link to what we’d buy ourselves, and say so when something isn’t worth it.

What that means in practice

Most links here are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small share of the sale. The price you see is the retailer’s own price, and it is exactly what you would pay arriving at their site any other way.

Nothing is listed because it pays the most. Commission rates across this category run between about four and eight percent, and the difference between the best-paying piece and the worst-paying one is a couple of dollars — not enough to buy a recommendation, and nowhere near enough to be worth the readers it would cost.

We are not paid to write anything here, we do not accept payment for placement, and no brand sees a Curator Score before it is published. Where a piece has been handled in person it is marked as such; everything else is scored from published specifications, which is what that page explains.

Prices and availability

Prices come from retailer datafeeds and are shown with the date they were last checked. They go out of date between checks, and the retailer’s own price at the moment you buy is the one that counts. Where something has sold out we leave the page up, say so, and point at the alternatives.
